Today, I am a small business owner. We finance commercial real estate with institutional capital partners in the 48 contiguous United States.
I'm a former Fed. For 20 years, I served the Department of Defense. I've been active duty, a Federal contractor and a supervisory GS-343-15 responsible for Defense Business Transformation. You can find more about what I used to do by following my LinkedIn profile link.
What is Your Interest in the Community?
My interest is to give back to the community. I enjoy leveraging my background and experience to raise awareness and preparedness in the communities I am part of. I believe we could all benefit from a being a little more prepared. Emergency services are straining under budget pressure and they can be overwhelmed by events. Citizens that are prepared can be valuable assets to their communities!
Your Training Background:
I am formally trained as a first responder, an EMT, a fire fighter and a Navy Corpsman. The military gave me additional training roughly equivalent to the level of a civilian paramedic.
I have been trained and practiced as a BLS (CPR) instructor, an EMT instructor, an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) instructor, an Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course (EVOC) instructor, and have additional training in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), structural fire fighting (additional fire training), SCBA operations (filling air tanks), helicopter operations and medivacs.
I was a volunteer member of fire departments in New York and Connecticut. Our New York department ran approximately 200 - 300 structure fires per year via an automatic mutual aid program with 33 fire districts. I fought more than 1,000 structure fires in those years.
I was a paid member of EMS/rescue operations in New York and South Carolina. In New York we did a lot of medical transport work - to include all medical operations out of Danemora State Prison.
I'm a trained SCUBA diver, an FAA licensed aircraft pilot, and a licensed motorcycle enthusiast. I hold a basic GRMS radio operator's license.
I am recently trained as a member of the Montgomery County Emergency Response Team (CERT). I am also a Scout Leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
Thanks for the nice comment on The Prepared Community page. If you send them to http://purrfectspots.com/thecaseyplan.html they will find out about The CASEY Plan - Caring for Animals Safely in Emergencies during the Year. That is my website. They are free to download, copy, share, whatever it takes to get the word out. Also on another note, you could send them to http://www.slideshare.net/purrfectspots/sewing-room-safety-tips-for... which is a slideshare program that I did for pet safety in the sewing room as I am a quilt designer and wanted to share with my quilting friends. I will take every opportunity I can get to help spread the word about taking care of animals. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for all you do.
